Old Ties and New Thais

About nine years ago I was in Sri Lanka. The nation has a troubled history of Sinhalese-Buddhist and Tamil-Hindu struggles and some devastating wars have left the land scarred. But, I was able to see the North, South Coastal and Mountain regions. One of our stops was at the Temple of the Tooth....the Tooth of Buddha. It was impressive and both highly regarded and highly guarded, due to the religious/ethnic war.

In the Mountains of Sri Lanka

Nevertheless, I got a taste of Buddhist society in parts of Sri Lanka.
In a few weeks I am exploring the Buddhist Temples of Thailand, which have much in common with the Buddhist temples and priests of Sri Lanka. Close connections. I am ready to see as many temples as time will allow.
Plus in Bangkok lives our old friend Dave with whom we taught in Zambia nearly 40 years ago. He's retired and I'm not, so we hope to meet up for a couple days before Laura, Josh and I check out all the temples and pad thai that we can handle.
If I am diligent, I will get a blog out to you each morning. The 12 hour time difference should give me time. Join me.       Bob
